Raising money for a good cause can be FUN! Yes it can!
People like to have FUN.
They’ll use almost any excuse to have FUN,
to laugh together, to enjoy each other’s company,
and do it often!
SoFun® games are ideally suited for large groups to play
because they’re easy to learn,
full of suspense (anyone can win),
and FUN!
But how do you raise money by playing and having FUN?
Here’s how:
Step One: Make the invitation.
Let people know about your FUNd-Raiser. Use every means you can to get the word out about your event. Sell admission tickets. Put up posters. Send out reminders and make announcements however you can. Be sure to let everyone know WHEN and WHERE it is. Tell them what to expect, especially WHY you’re having a FUNd-Raiser.
Step Two: Prepare the Place.
Your FUNd-Raising event needs to be large enough for all the people you expect to attend. Are there enough tables and chairs? Is the lighting adequate? Will your facilitator need a sound system? Here are some other tips:
1. Decorations don’t need to be elaborate but they help set a festive mood. Make the event fun by adding color. Balloons and streamers can add to the event. If you decorate the tables, make the decorations very simple so they do not interfere with the game playing.
2. Be sure there are enough games for every table. Set up the games prior to the event, removing anything that distracts from the games.
3. Do you need pencils or pads of paper? Are there enough game pieces? Will you need playing (poker) chips?
Step Three: Plan the activity.
Play the game so you’re familiar with the rules. Select a version of the game that will work with the group. For example, Progressive Parlinks® or Progressive Chards® works well for this kind of event. Visualize how the group will play the game and what instructions they will need. It’s even a good idea to play a short version of the game as it will be played in the event with a few friends to see how people will play.
Step Four: Provide refreshments.
Be sure the food is not complicated or messy. Keep it simple! Some events find that it is easier to eat at a certain location in the room or even at a certain time (a break or after a game, for example). Messy food and drink can spoil an otherwise good time.
Step Five: Have FUN!
Actually, the entire process should have a fair amount of this ingredient sprinkled in. It’s FUN to invite people to your FUNd-Raising event. It’ FUN to prepare the place. It’s FUN to plan the activity. It’s FUN to provide refreshments. Yes! It’s FUN when you have a SoFun® FUNd-Raising event!
Caution – If you use gambling as a feature of your FUNd-Raising event, do NOT collect money from gambling! Many states strictly prohibit this so we advise you NOT to collect any gambling money as part of your FUNd-Raiser. Rather, charge admission to play or collect donations during the event, but NOT as part of a game.
